We are contacted more and more frequently by people wishing to arrange ‘home funerals’ – that is, those who do not wish to release someone into the care of a stranger after death.
Very often, this happens after someone has been ill for a long time and has been cared for at home by close relatives.
When you have nursed someone in this situation, death becomes a natural extension of the experience, and you may feel that you wish to carry on caring for the person after he or she has died.
We are very happy to help you achieve this, and can offer you help and advice to enable it to happen. We understand that people in this situation will often want to take complete control of the funeral, and our role will be negligible, perhaps just supplying a coffin or a vehicle. We have no issue at all with this, and will only charge you for what we do.
The immediate issue after death is that a person needs to be kept cool, ideally at about 8 degrees centigrade.
We operate the Flexmort system of cooling at our premises. Instead of an impersonal mortuary fridge, we use cool blankets which work rather like reverse sleeping bags.
We may be able to offer you the use of the system at your own home, so please ask if this is something you are considering.
As always, we try to accommodate any request, and will do our best to help you in any way we can.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if this is something you would like to discuss.
