John Harvey Whitehead passed away suddenly put peacefully on 3rd October 2012 aged 81 years.
John leaves behind wife Margaret, daughter and son Lynne and Mark and four grandsons Lawrence, Davis, Joshua and Matthew.
John was born in 1931 in Oxford. He attended New College School in Oxford and Kings School in Worcester. After National Service in Germany he went to New College Oxford to study for a degree in Natural Sciences.
John was first employed by Mullards in London as an electrical engineer. He stayed with the company for the rest of his working life with his division changing hands from Pye, Philips and Graseby. He ended his career managing the purchasing department.
Throughout his life he has been a dedicated sportsman playing a number of sports, particularly excelling in cricket. In addition he took up hockey umpiring, reaching international level.
The loves of his life were his family, wine and his particular taste in the humorous and absurd. He entertained his friends, who always walked away from conversations with a smile on their face.
John’s funeral ceremony takes place in the West Chapel at The City of Cambridge Crematorium on Monday 15th October 2012 at 12.00noon.
